The unique history and geographical location of the University of Toronto's St. George's Campus not only encompasses the open and free style of study of American universities, but also integrates the rigor and tradition of European universities. The college system of the University of Toronto can be traced back to the founding of the university, and it has been retained to this day as the most unique feature of the university. Each college at St. George has a unique group of scholars and students under the Faculty of Arts & Science.
Every Arts & Science student is a member of a college. Whether you live on campus or commute (commute), your college is like a familiar neighborhood environment, bringing you people you may know for a lifetime.
Each college has its own culture and provides core services to its students, including academic and financial advising, accommodation, orientation, scholarships, and social gatherings. Many students find that their college is one of the most important elements of their college experience.
Similar to the college system of Oxford and Cambridge in the UK, the main campus of U of T includes 7 independent undergraduate colleges, 3 theological colleges and 1 graduate college. As shown in "Harry Potter", the college is where students live, including dormitories, libraries, study rooms, gymnasiums, etc., but students from different colleges take classes together. It is important to note that students from the College of Engineering do not have to apply to the College as there is a separate college for Engineering itself. Each of these colleges has its own different history, characteristics and admissions standards.
When applying, you will be clearly asked to list your ranking, based on personal preferences and the main selection criteria (for international students):
Accommodation conditions: Innis and wdw are aptment type, with large room space, good location, and no mandatory meal plan, which is recognized as the best choice. The remaining five are traditional hall-shaped dormitories, with a dozen or so people on one floor sharing bathrooms, toilets, etc.
