Simon Fraser university has three campuses, the main campus in benabi, the satellite campus in downtown vancouver's harbor center, and the new surrey campus. It is also a partner of the university north road campus in vancouver.
The university of science and technology of British Columbia, a technical university founded by the British Columbia government under the new Democratic Party, was closed in 2002. Some students were transferred to Simon Fraser university to continue their studies.
The main campus covers an area of 1.7 square kilometers and is located on benabi mountain, 400 meters above sea level. The campus was designed by Ericsson and Marcy; Both won a design competition in 1963. Simon Fraser university was founded when W.A.C. benard, President of the Social Credit party of British Columbia, was governor, and the library on the main campus was named after him.
Part of benabi hill below west university is a park and conservation observation area. Apart from Simon Fraser university itself and its related industry research Park Discovery Park, development projects, few and far between, until 2003 at the university began to develop campus near the mountain area of 200 mu of land, used for the construction of a model and the sustainable development of the community, and named UniverCity. This community has as many as 4500 residential units, divided into several small community, and a new town center, schools, parks and other facilities. As of January 2006, 585 residences and the Cornerstone building, with restaurants and shops, had been completed. Another 400 homes are under construction, and some of the community's features are beginning to attract foreign attention. These features include Canada's first community public transport permit program, legal secondary suites to provide shelter for all, a model storm water treatment system, and a policy banning multinational companies from opening branch offices.
